Version 1.2 Thoughts on Armies and Resources

    I don't agree that trying to make materials more interesting has been at the core of the problems.
    Unfortunately, that's where the whole overmap feels like it is right now to me (and throughout development)--like it's a game that we still need to figure out how it can be useful. Tightening it up into a game that's about choosing where to place cities and then waiting for them to upgrade (even if they do it fast) is not a solution that I find satisfying. If we're talking extremes, I'd rather see food and auto-upgrades ditched in favor of a system where materials (or some other fungible resource) are actively spent on moment-to-moment tradeoffs.
