Any ideas what the best image editing programs are? In my youth I used MS paint for Pokemon splicing and in the modern era I used GIMP for stuff. People keep talking about photoshop too. What's your take artists?

I am a scientist, not an artist, but I use a fair bit of Inkscape for vector graphics (plots and diagrams, mostly). Inkscape is to Adobe Illustrator as the GIMP is to Adobe Photoshop.

Also not an artist but I use Paint.NET most days for general prototyping, mockups and programmer art. It's free and lightweight and has a decent amount of features. I'd say Paint.NET is to MS Paint what Civilization is to Risk.

I use Photoshop for almost everything - painting, pixel art, animation. Blake does as well.

I can't believe it took until photoshop CC for the purple snapping lines to come into play.
